HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) is a virus that attacks the immune system, specifically targeting CD4 cells (T cells), weakening the body’s defense against infections and certain cancers. Left untreated, HIV can lead to AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome), a more advanced stage of the infection where the immune system is severely compromised.
What is AIDS?
AIDS is the final and most severe stage of HIV infection. It occurs when the immune system is so weakened that it can no longer fight off infections and diseases. Not everyone with HIV develops AIDS, especially with early diagnosis and proper treatment.
